Fly Tying w/ Ben Saks at Hazel Grove Brewing

Join Community Impact Partners Hazel Grove Brewing, Mountain Watershed Association and 3 Rivers Outdoor Co. for an evening of fly tying with Ben Saks.

Whether you're new to fly tying or looking to dust off your old vise, join us for a relaxed, hands-on evening of tying flies, swapping stories, and sharing a few laughs. Local fly angler and fly tying enthusiast Ben Saks will guide participants through tying three essential trout patterns: the Woolly Bugger, Pheasant Tail Nymph, and a classic Dry Fly.

What to Expect:

  1. A casual, social atmosphere perfect for beginners and intermediate tiers.
  2. All materials and tools provided – just bring your curiosity (and maybe your favorite pair of scissors).
  3. Instruction on tying 3 versatile patterns that catch fish anywhere.
  4. Insight into local waters, seasonal strategies, and the art of making your own flies.
  5. Come tie one on, make some new fishing buddies, and leave with flies you made yourself – ready for your next adventure on the water.

With over 25 years of experience fly fishing and tying, Ben grew up steelhead fishing the Chagrin River near Cleveland, and has since cast lines across Pennsylvania, from the Limestoner creeks of Central PA to the tailwaters of the Allegheny Plateau. His travels have taken him to the rivers of the Western US, the wilds of Canada, the volcanic streams of Iceland, and the gin-clear waters of New Zealand. He has called Pittsburgh home since 2003 and continues to explore its waters with a fly rod in hand.
