3ROC Adventure Race
3ROC City Adventure Event
Summary
3 Rivers Outdoor Company wants to introduce everyone to a fun outdoor adventure event. The goal is to ensure everyone can experience the joy of having a multi-sport adventure right in wonderful city and embrace the outdoor opportunities that exist in Pittsburgh. Combining paddling, mountain biking, and foot travel (running or hiking), teams of 2-4 will have up to six hours to find as many checkpoints as they can, using only map-and-compass navigation skills to guide them.
A goal of adventure is all you need to work through this multi-sport adventure challenge as you explore the trails, woods, streets, and waters of Pittsburgh.
Never heard of an Adventure Race? Check out the US Adventure Racing Association or check back for our introduction to adventure racing story from several of our 3ROC fans. This is an awesome opportunity and we want you to join us to give it a shot and have some outdoor fun.

The race will be divided into approximately three segments by discipline: there will be a paddle section, a bike section, and a run/hike section.
-
Teams will start at one location and finish in a different section.
-
Teams will be permitted to leave gear, food, and hydration in select transition areas.
-
The event contains a minimum number of mandatory checkpoints that each team must reach to finish the event. Each stage of the race will also include additional checkpoints (CPs) that racers may find as time permits. All checkpoints will be found using map-and-compass navigation (GPS devices allowed only in emergencies).
-
Teams will have up to three or six hours to find as many checkpoints as they can across the three stages.*
*Distances are estimates; navigation abilities, strategy, and route choice will affect actual distances on race day. Much of the course is optional, so while you may not find every checkpoint, everyone will be able to make their own adventure and finish the race!
