1:00 PM - 3:30 PM
3ROC Outpost
Want to expand your river navigation skills by learning to lock through one of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lock & Dams in the Pittsburgh pool?
Join 3ROC and Friends of the Riverfront on the Three Rivers Water Trail for a locking through paddle experience from the 3ROC Outpost in Aspinwall to Sharpsburg! We’ll depart from the 3ROC Outpost in Allegheny RiverTrail Park and lock through Lock & Dam 2, we'll spend some time paddling the river near Sharpsburg before returning through the lock to Allegheny RiverTrail Park.
This session is designed for paddlers at an intermediate experience level. All paddlers should have some experience paddling a kayak on their own and a basic knowledge of river safety.
Before getting on the water, we will discuss safety, the process of Locking Through, and explore a bit of the science around how locks work.
Bring your own kayak, or rent one from us! Once you complete your registration, we’ll give you a call and work with you to be sure you have everything you need for a great afternoon on the water!
In the event of a weather related cancellation, a rain date will be provided.
Registration is required and is only $5, thanks to a generous grant from the Pennsylvania Environmental Council to reduce the barriers to participation and provide an inclusive and accessible event that promotes confidence in paddlers to plan or even lead longer sojourns on the river!
