Protect our Wilderness Clean-Up - March 28, 2025

"Wilderness is not a luxury but a necessity of the human spirit." -Edward Abby.

We here at 3 Rivers Outdoor Company feel the truth of this sentiment and strive to engage, encourage, and facilitate access to and preservation of our nation's wilderness and wild spaces. We have been here through the last six years providing products, advice, events, fundraising, and community around wild spaces.

The recent firing of NPS, USFS, and BLM employees indicate that those spaces are under attack. Protection for our nations natural areas is protection of fundamental American value. The pursuit of happiness is not only that of material wealth or gain, but also the pursuit of adventure, discovery, and connection that can only be found in wild spaces. Public Lands, and the folks that monitor and preserve those lands, are of primary importance to preserving access to America's wild areas. Wilderness areas enrich our lives, both when we visit them and when we don't. These ecosystems provide fresh drinking water, help fight climate change, and balance the scales of humans and nature.

"Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts. The more clearly we can focus our attention on the wonders and realities of the universe, the less taste we shall have for destruction." -Rachel Carson

Pennsylvania was home to one of the most important environmental activist and educators in our countries history, Rachel Carson, author of the groundbreaking book, Silent Spring. In the spirit of Rachel Carson, we wish to represent our natural spaces and act to quiet the voices of those who would seek to destroy our natural spaces. Those that seek to dismantle the systems of protection of the heritage of our nations natural beauty to current and future generations should not be supported.

On March 28th, we will voice our choice of community, our parks, and the health of our environment. We choose to send a message to those acting to dismantle the wealth of our national spaces. We seek to strengthen the organizations that preserve our water and air quality, and to strengthen those that seek to preserve our ability to connect with nature. We seek to strengthen our local community.

It's one thing to talk, but it's more important to ACT.

Friday, March 28 - Wilderness Action Day

Our schedule of events for the day is as follows. Meet at the store for all events (1130 S Braddock Ave).

  • 3 - 5pm - Trash clean-up in our beloved Frick Park (please bring work gloves)

We will be CASH ONLY all day. Instead of paying for credit card processing fees, we will donate 5% of our sales on 3/28 to a local non-profit which serves the outdoors.

This is direct action. As members of your community, and as your neighbors and friends, we ask you to join us in our Wilderness Action Day.

This event is a nation-wide effort to call specific attention to an individual's power and influence of economic decisions, and one's ability to influence the direction of society through market forces. On this day, we ask folks to consider their consumption, and make purchases with local, independent businesses that align with their values. From the beginning, 3ROC's mission has been to ADVOCATE for the protection and expansion of our natural spaces, by stocking brands and working with local partners who that align to that mission. We ask that you follow suit.

We encourage folks to support our local environmental stewards, and divest from those that aim to impede our ability to connect with nature and/or degrade the quality of the environment in which we live.

We believe that:

  • Clean air and clean water are healthcare
  • Seeking solace and peace in nature is a rightful pursuit of happiness
  • Biodiversity is part of the wealth that we hand to our children
  • Preservation of wilderness and green spaces is patriotism

We invite local businesses and nonprofits to join us.  Will you?
