Better late than never—we’ve finally seen decent snowfall in Western PA, which means that it’s time to get outside with Pennsylvania Cross Country Skiers' Association (PACCSA)! They’ll be leading a cross country ski lesson at Laurel Ridge State Park on Sunday at 1 pm. Arrive by 12:30 pm to rent skis, or rent some from us at the shop before heading to the outing.
No registration required!
PACCSA offers free group lessons throughout the ski season. No registration is necessary—just be at the meeting point on time and ready to go.
For lessons at Laurel Ridge XC Ski Center, the meeting point is the flat area beside the concession building.
The lessons usually last around an hour. Instruction is given on the basic skills of classic Nordic skiing—falling and rising, balance drills, diagonal stride, use of poles, and hill technique. This is followed by a short trek on the trails to practice these skills, which also provides an opportunity for individual critique to be given.
The instructors are PACCSA members. Participants are not required to join PACCSA.
The lesson is free, but a trail pass must be purchased from the concession. For equipment rental, see their gear rentals and retailers page. For trail fees, visit Riversport's Laurel Ridge page.
